My favourite novel is Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier. Have you read it? Closely followed by Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher. I reread Nigel Slater's The Christmas Chronicles every year. It starts at the end of November. I don't have a specific autumn book though.
I have read Rebecca, although not for many years. I also re-read The Christmas Chronicles every year. I find it the perfect way to anchor into the season and I love the fact that there is an entry for my birthday. I've never read Winter Solstice but I have seen it appearing a lot here on Substack - would you recommend it?
I love autumn too. It should feel melancholy with everything shutting down after an active growing season but for me there's a sense of renewal. Even as the leaves leave the trees, if you look closely, you can see the new buds. Autumn is a time for preparing, putting everything in place to hunker down for the winter. Do you have a favourite book you read every autumn? 🍁🍂
I absolutely agree, Georgina - it’s definitely a season of renewal and hibernation to restore energy for the more outward months. I try to re-read Pride and Prejudice every year, usually in the autumn. I also have both volumes of The Food Almanac by Miranda York, which is perfect for dipping into and getting inspiration for the quieter months. Is there a book that you love to return to again and again?
It's lovely to read more about you Victoria (I'm so sorry, I'm only just catching up!). We're similar - I love autumn too, and definitely agree that there's nothing better than a rainy Sunday!
No apologies required - thank you for reading! Autumn and rainy Sundays are two of my favourite things. I hope to take more inspiration from your wonderful writing this autumn for things I can do in my little garden. 😁
*happy flails* It's so wonderful to read more about you and see your lovely face! 🤗 We have a lot in common and I'm so looking forward to read your musings when Autumn has knocked on our doors and we can settle into our cosy outfits and surround ourselves with all the magic this season has to offer us, the actual Autumn magic, but also all it stands for. 🧡🍂🍁💃
I had a sneaking suspicion we might be quite similar. 😊 Thank you so much for reading and for being here. I think we all need a little bit of autumn magic in our lives. 🍂

Ahh thank you, that's so sweet! I have so many ideas to share that I'm now at a point where there aren't enough weeks in autumn to share them all 😂
